What's with the woodYou may wonder why wood is such a prevalent decorative finishing material in Vancouver and the answer is quite simple…we’ve got a lot of wood.  Vancouver  was originally covered with a thick forest of fir, cedar, hemlock, spruce and salal and in the 1900’s False Creek became lined with sawmills and shingle mills—eventually there were 17 sawmills employing over 10,000 workers. Many heritage buildings in Vancouver were constructed out of timbers that were locally milled nearly a century ago. The lumber industry remained the backbone of the new settlement’s economy, and Hastings Mill was “the nucleus around which the city of Vancouver developed. In a city that’s history is so rich with wood, it is no wonder why we see hand crafted woodworks, decorative wood siding and wood interior finishings in abundance today.
